The Mc Laughlin group
had that nerdy guy once again- - who is at least moderate and perhaps left
leaning. Eleanor Clift hasn’t missed a
show. Pat Buchannon was back- - and Mort
Zuckerman was serving up his usual economic doom and gloom. But Mort doesn’t relish the idea of the
Republicans nominating Ted Cruz either.
The big charge going around now is that maybe the Republicans would have
supported an immigration bill but not now.
Not after President Obama “tried to destroy the Republican Party” and
apparently- - the fact that Obama Care is still up and running was also a “deal
breaker” for the immigration bill. Don’t
ask me how. The game was over just
about nine and then we watched that Michael Skakle murder thing. Tommy Skakle has less of an alibi of murdering
that teenage girl- - but Michael lied to the police and was put on trial in a
court you’d expect to be biased in favor of a Kennedy, but he was convicted and
was serving time. CBS implied that now
he’s out and there are two Blacks and a White that know something about the
crime- and one of them allegedly confessed to doing it. But Michael also confessed to doing it at one
time. I don’t think you walk on water just because
you have Kennedy Clan blood in your veins.
CBS calls it an unsolved crime.
Lou
Reed died today apparently of liver cancer.
He was 71, which was about five years older than I figured. I thought it was just older than me. Of course he was a guy to push the envelope
both musically and in his lyrics, first with the Velvet Underground- - and then
on to his famous hits as a solo artist.
They played a number of Ringo songs on Breakfast with the Beatles. Somebody was plugging the idea that Capital Records used to "amp up the rock" on early Beatles songs by adding re-verb, to such songs as "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Slow Down" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy". It would seem that “Queenie Eye” is actually
a game where you toss the baseball behind you and everybody puts their hand
behind their backs and you have to guess who has the ball. The final song of the morning was that Radio Head mash-up with "A Day in the Life".
This morning we had
Cheerios for breakfast followed by scrambled eggs and toast and butter and
jelly. By the way- - the coffee was good
and strong and the cup was filled good and full. That’s how I like it, particularly in my
state of caffeine deficiency. Do you
realize the last time I got a cup of coffee from Janet it had to be before I
went shopping at Wall Mart on September 11th? And the last few times I did get coffee from
Janet we weren’t getting any pastry with it, like we used to routinely. As for employing people to bring coffee and
rolls to Stanley- - I don’t know whatever became of that. The last cigarettes I ever got from Janet
were just over five weeks ago. I watched
Meet the Press and there was nothing in particular to note about that
show. Bryant Gumble of NBC thought that
Hurricane Sandy was personal because it hit where he lived. Last night I got a pack with two white
cigarettes in it to last me the rest of the evening- - and she lent me another
white cigarette today, which I’m grateful for.
I had Neil of KFI on to
do his usually Halloween speech. Just as
an advisory I think it’s a little dumb and self serving to say “Well just
because our side does the same things as the enemy doesn’t mean we can’t do them
for different reasons”. However I would
remind you that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. (Selah)
So Jehovah smells the sweet savor of BBQ stake that Noah sent up to him
on the sacrificial alter- - and God promised he would never destroy the earth
again - - at least by water. But I’ve
heard Gene Scott say “Just because pagans do things first like invented the
cross or the concept of a wedding ring- - or even venerated the fish symbol- -
you know that Lucifer is going to do an end run around Jesus and get there
first and preempt the Church. It just
seems to me that if my goal is to show my moral superiority over another I do
that by NOT doing what they do and doing the things they will NOT do. In other words I like to insult them by NOT
being like them. If I catch myself “Acting
like a fundamentalist Christian” I check myself. Of course with all that rip roaring music
you thin we’re going to have some high old religious orgy- - a gospel spirit
filled Blow Out. And then after the
music ends this jerk comes on the program.
You know what the fish symbolizes to me don’t you “Bait and
Switch”. Just remember that the next
time you see a Christian fish.
Can bitter and sweet
water flow from the same fountain?
Suppose you saw or heard a statement that Trayvon Martin was just a no
good nigger and another punk with a hoodie, but then the guy goes on to say “But
he suffered a grave injustice at the hands of George Zimmerman and suffered the
ultimate penalty for offending him”. At
least I’d be perplexed by such a statement.
You may or may not know that most of what we know about the Great Fire
of Rome in AD 64 was from Tacitus. And
Tasitus praises Nero as a good administrator and also for caring for the poor,
and opening up the grounds for refugee homeless from the fire and did relief
efforts, and also had the fire codes rewritten to make the city safer. But then we have a passage about now Nero was
the one who started the fire and he blamed the Christians for it- - - whose
founder paid the ultimate penalty under Governor Pontious Pilate. And the passage goes on to describe how the
Christians were fed to the Lions and covered with pitch and set on fire to
light Nero’s gardens and all of that. I’m
personally puzzled why no Christian writer - - or Bible author- - ever made one
adverse reference to Emperor Nero. About
the only possible reference to Nero is St Paul saying that he is choosing to “appeal
to Caesar” around AD 59 or so, or about the same time Nero was engaged in one
of his killing sprees. He did another
killing spree in AD 55 and in AD 62. Some
Christian apologists would say that there are three Roman historians who make
reference to Christians, which- - proves they really existed or something. The author is so defensive about it it makes
you wonder. One of these historians
made a reference to around 115 AD, considerably later. The other reference makes reference to “Certain
Jews who were followers of a leader named Crustus- - were kicked out of Rome by
Claudius”. The problem here is- - if
they were ‘kicked out” when and who invited them back in? If Christians were really all that “loathsome’
and “haters of mankind” I can’t see why Nero would say to them “OK Claudius
kicked you out but I’m welcoming you back in”.
