It is in vain, sir, to extentuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace--but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!
Patrick Henry was against the Constitution and also wrote against James Madison. However one source says that in his final years he was almost appointed by John Adams to a post but declined it due to failing health. Patrick Henry did not survive the century. Thomas Jefferson believed in an educated citizenry and promoted free education. He was one of those "Jack of all trades" kind of guy, and even played the violin. He liked to "fiddle around".
Some may wonder whether Abraham Lincoln was a tyrant. He did suspend the right of habious corpus before George Bush thought of it. If southern generals had gone up North I wonder whether they would burn down towns the way northern generals did? I looked up the Confederate Constitution and the wording in many places is almost identical to ours, except they had the intellectual honisty to include the word "Slaves" rather than "other persons". It is said that Robert E Lee was loyal both to America, which he loved, but also to his beloved state of Virginia, which he loved more. He would not turn the sword upon native soil. Personally I think South Carolina or any other state has the right to fly the Confederate flag over any public building they want. Of course I also believe the same thing about crosses. As far as I'm concerned we could use a little more "States rights" and "Popular sovreignty" as Stephen Douglas talked about. Apparently before the Civil War they used to use the phrase "The United States are- - - ect. ect." and after the war they reverted to the less gramiticly correct "The United States Is- - - ". The thing is government is getting too big and we are trying to micro manage too many issues, that would best be handled by popular will of each state.
I'd like to talk a little about Dennis Prager, now that I peal off my white mask and reveale my true identity. Dennis Prager is one of those people who makes less and less sense every time you hear him. Today he was talking about the Don Imus racial and sexual slurr against the female Rutkers NCAA team you've all been saturated with. It's one thing to say "The remark should be kept in perspective". After all Imus was fired by CBS and yet people like Howard Stern, Bill Handel and Rush Limbaugh are allowed to go their merry way and nobody will touch them. It's one thing to say "The remark doesn't bother me that much" but it's quite another to "go over to the Other Side" like Dennis Prager has done. He's taken to attacking Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and everyone in the media who has been critizing these bigoted sexist words. It would seem that Prager seems to have some latent emotional need to defend Imas and criticize anyone would condemn him. Prager then went on a personal attack of Jesse Jackson calling him all sorts of names. But then Prager got screwyer. He began talking about the Jews and the Haulocost. He says that the difference is when Jesse talks about Black slavery, Prager takes it as a personal affront like he's being criticized personally. I'll say this by way of differentiation. I think anti semitisum is a thing of the past. We outgrew it fifty years ago and the Christian Church seems to finally be outgrowing it after thousands of years. Prager went on to note that the Christian Church is the Jew's best friend. That's like a Jew having Joseph Geobles as his best friend. Christianity is founded at its very core on an anti semetic proposition and Jews for two thousand years have pretty much gotten the message. The thing about slaver verses Vookenvald or other internment camps is that nobody stereotyped the Jew in this country as someone deserving of extermination. However there are people who would like to put the chains of slavery back on the Black man. There are basically four races we in this country are racist against. They are the African-American, the American Indian. the Chicano, and the Arab people. With these four the stereotypes are still in force. And this my friend is why Jesse Jackson makes the differentiation he does. But Dennis went on to talk about inter-racial marriage in his own strange manner. Dennis said that it would be better of you're a KKK style Christian to marry a black KKK member if you can find one, rather than marry a white exestentialist or something. For Prager it isn't race but "Values". The only problem is that different races have different values. So it's bigotry under a different name. Prager is a strange bird anyhow because at times he's for a generic "Brand X Religion" or "Religion for Religion's sake". At other times he seems to have definite ideas of what a proper religion should be even if he redefines them like he likes to redefine Christianity. The thing is say I'm white and I marry a Black woman with Larry Elder values. As such she's a woman who basically hates her own race. She's an Oreo. A KKK with dark skin. Just how are the children going to grow up if it isn't hating their own race because of their mother? Then they'll have to go into psycho therapy or something. Personally I have a bias against saying "Youre stripes and I'm pocadot and never the twain shall meet". Back in Patrick Henry's day people were actually MOVED to another point of view by hearing a speech. But today we have all these labels, labels, labels, which must not be disturbed, and Prager wants to be sure they're segragated.
Yesterday the Bush Adminestration was discovered to be withholding key White House E mails. But as they say "You can't erase things any more. They've gone through too many servers". Technical people can apparently retrieve all sorts of deleted items. It's a bit of a parrellel to the Nixon Adminestration and the eighteen minute gap caused when Rosemary Woods erased the tapes "accidently". People discussed it and it's anybody's guess whether Impeachment will gain traction. "Sic Semper Tyranus" is my motto. It was pointed out that Richard Nixon was not from a ruling oil barron dynesty. Nixon was a poor boy who made good, like Elvis. As such he was still in contact with what it's like to be poor. With Bush the words come to mind, "You sail the seas to win one convirt and when you've won him you make him twice the child of Satan you yourselves are". There is this "devolution" in the children of rich families the farther they get from any contact with the real world. I was reading O Bama's book today and his sentaments seem to echo closely those of Thom Hartman. Things are so biased in favor of business. I read that the Estate tax is now tax free for the first four million, and they are going to raise that to seven million! "oooohweeeh!" That's tall cotton. I don't think we have to worry about these people being thrown into the poor house anytime soon. Apparently the top 36% of the tax refund does to the top richest one percent of the population. April 13th. 1976 was the first time I actually met Zachery face to face. I guess some may ask where he got his blond hair and blue eyes from. On this date Pete Richards and I and Dick Llyle were moving Pete's furnature into the Palm St. house livingroom. This is a few days after the Llyles moved out and just before I moved in. I guess we have to ask ourselves who in the house that day had clossest to blue eyes and blond hair. "Not I, said the little red hen". This of course is just a historic footnote because nothing came of the whole Ziggy's Air Command thing.
