Laviathin of the Right

I don't think it's any secret that this President Bush has strayed far from what we used to refer to Conservativum, of the Barry Goldwater variety. Both he and Ronald Reagan initially at least used to talk about "The government that governs least governs best". We have strayed far from this. In the words of Steppinwolf describing government, "Now it's a monster and will not obey". Yet the sort of mutant conservatisum the Bush Adminestration practices actually predates the American Revolution itself. Indeed the philosophy behind it was propounded prior to what we call "Classical music" or "Classical art". There is nothing "Classical" about Bush conservatisum any more than the Andrew Sisters is "Classic Rock". It all goes back to a guy named Hobbs who saw fit to come up with a doctrine defending "The divine right of Kings" which, even in the sixteen hundreds was starting to feel threatened as Brittain got their first "Civil liberties" laws. This is how far back you have to go. This Hobbs doctrine as I understand it was that "Most" men are created equal, but they are created totally base and depraved as John Calvin says. In fact John Calvin was one guy who put Hobbs into social practice a century before the fact in Geniva, Switzzerland. There is the belief that man is born depraved and base and animalistic, as Chuck Smith preaches, and that it's the role of divinely sanctioned or "elected" government to save mankind from itself with sterm rule. I guess is kind of that line a father tells his son or daughter "Some day you'll thank me for this, son". The Rulers have a divine right because they are "elected" or "pre-elected" by none other than God. They are "Called" to "Rule and reign with a rod of iron". In this form of philosophy the way to prove whether you're "elect" or not is are you among the rich and priveledged class? If you are born into wealth and status this is proof of God's favor or "pre-election". It was Gene Scott who says "I know what the Bible says about God not being a respecter of persons but this is nonesence. OF COURSE God is a respecter of persons! Keep in mind according to Thom Hartman the traditional view and structure of society as a whole is a small Royal Ruling class, and an almost as small merchant class such as the pawn shop owner, the baker, and the candlestick maker. Then there is the vast unwashed working class. The only "negotiation" here is who can get what worker for the cheapest price, which isn't much. The idea of the worker having rights at all is anathama to these "Pre-classic" conservatives. In Calvary Chapel Anaheim you see this same philosophy working itself out with the fortunate and the privelege exalting in how blessed by God and hence "pre-elect" they are, giving thanks to God in prayer each night they aren't among the unsaved, unwashed masses, or that they aren't like Me. Of course today I was hearing a guy talking about bee colonies. There seems to be some indication that being a Queen bee isn't just genetic, but nurture, because from a young age she is given "royal jelly" and other pharimones to make her into a queen, much as the "elect" Christian ruler from a young age is given special treatment to "turn him into" the sort of Christian snob he is now.

Of course today we don't have kings and royalty. So the Bush adminestration has made some substitutions. The multinational corporation now fills in for the "landed gentry" of old. These corporations are considered pre elect by God to run the world. As Thom Hartman goes on to say this supreme court decision of today is definitely regbarded as a hostile ruling by the Supreme Court. Keep in mind today's environmental ruling was a five -four decision. One more conservative on the bench and the ruling would have gone the other way. So join me in a chorus of "Hang on, Stevens, Stevens hang on!" If we elect congress and congress sets up the environmental protection agency and they want to rule about CO2 in the air, they should have the right, because We the People GAVE them the right. It's funny that the current EPA is hostile to the environment and thoughts about Global Warming. The other philosopher I'd like to mention is John Locke, who I guess lived in the early 1700's. He believed also that all men are created equal but are entitled to Democracy as well as "Life, liberty, and property". When you think about it saying the majority of the population was entitled to "Property" is kind of a revolutionary thought. Personally I liked it when Jefferson changed the line to "The persuit of Happiness". Locke is called a "classic liberal". Actually I'd call him a "Classic" conservative, keeping in mind the definition I have for "Classic" as opposed to "pre historic". In the Animal kingdom you have a case much as Hobbs talks about where the strongest animals set up a ruling dynesty and exert their rule on the rest. But I would hope we are better than animals.

I have some conservative tendencies. Among these are my feelings about Social Securety and Medicare. I think medicare was a mistake from the git-go. It never should have happened. I remember in May of 1966 right after Medicare was passed my dad got sick with an ulcer and had to be hospitalized. I remember how prices for hospital rooms had gone through the roof in the past two years because of medicare. I thought then "If prices do this in such a short time with medicare it has to be some horrible mistake". Back in the old days, like in the 'fifties the average american family could easily afford a doctor, and pay the bill and not give it a second thought. This is back in the era before anti-biotics became verbotten. I think it would be nice to go back to an era like this, where everyone pays their own way. But then again Doctors would have to compete for a limited amount of money so prices would drop drastically. As a conservative I'm against this boondoggle drug bill Bush signed four years ago that is a sweatheart deal for the drug companies. Sixty Minutes had a real eye opener of a segment on the amount of vote manipulation and arm twisting that went on that night. They were only supposed to keep the vote open for fifteen minutes but the vote wasn't "officially" closed for hours till enough arms could be twisted. All of the people involved in the promotion and passage of the drug bill are now working for Drug Companies. I imagine this doesn't bother George Bush one bit since he's the one behind it all. Indeed the democrats want to repeal this drug bill but Bush says if they try to repeal it he will Veto that bill. President Bush has done everything but put a neon sign around his neck saying that he's a tool of the Big Corporations. The other area where I'd like to turn back the clock is social securety. You bet I think it should be Privitized, and the sooner and more radically the better. Why are the liberal democrats so opposed to people doing what they want to with their own life savings? Why should the government be trusted to save and invest it? There is more than proof that you can't trust people like Ronald Reagan and George Bush with the social securety trust fund. If the people invested their Own Money themselves it would go a long way tword defusing this ticking time bomb we're all aware of. Everyone is saying that government is going to be bankrupt in countless ways by 2040 or so. Why not prevent it now? Just as we would defuse an ecological disaster, why not defuse an economic disaster we see coming and shrink the size of government at the same time?

Of course we see daily the ravages of global warming. I don't know what's with the vanishing bee colony population but I bet it has something to do with global warming somehow. Of course there is a whole island nation in the Pacific that is slowly sinking and will be GONE in fifty years according to leaders living there. Many islands are only half the size they were ten years ago, due to the rising oceans. Of course there is that Glature that turned into a lake in Chile or some place. Many whole civilizations get their water supply from mountain shows. Of course in this country you have the record drought in California and in Texas, and probably every place inbetween, bringing about water rationing. And of course Antarctica is melting before our eyes. But of course any Bush government agency doesn't think it has the power to curb the output of CO2 in the air. Even if we stop all emitions now it will take fifty years for the global warming trend to abait. Hopefully we will elect more democrats to congress the next time so whoever the President is- even if it's Guiliani- - won't be able to Veto progress.

In terms of this whole Iran - Brittain standoff- - my guess is that it will resolve itself with no real problem. I don't see any military invasion of Iran on our part despite the growing rumblings in the media that the invasion is going to take place in the next few days. President Bush is against Nancy Palosi's trip to talk to Syria even if Isrial wants to negotiate with Syria. I am still predicting that President Bush will have some last minute sanity and start to negotiate with our enemies rather than bomb them. In the long run this will help his republican successor the best. Some say that we will be invading Iran around April 17th. or the same time Alberto Gonsolez is testifying before congress. My prediction is still that Gonsolez won't testify before congress because he'll be gone by then, perhaps under terms that he NOT testify before congress. People want revelations to come but our President is the master of the Cover-up.

OK you can stop reasing if you're not into religious analisys. Some ways in which the Calvary Chapels separate themselves from main stream Christianity is the way they interperet the Bible. For instance classicly the "river Jordan" is seen as symbolic of death. This is true because after death there is a "casting off of the flesh" and the Isrialites had never "cast off their flesh" (circumcision) in their lifetimes. Also the daily "manna" or "Word of God" (Daily bread) ceased to come after crossing Jordan. Of course Jordan means "spreading judgement" and traditionally this is when you're expected to be judged. But if the Calvaries are right, after you cross the Jordan it doesn't mean death but morfing into some sort of Super Saint. Where you learn to "flow in the spirit" and cash in on all that Divine Election Capital. If the Calvaries are right there is some final "casting off of the flesh" you have to do to achieve thie new heightened spiritual plane that Chuck Smith claims he lives on. Most alarmingly without the manna, it would seem that these people "outgrow" the Word of God itself. Jesus Christ made an interesting remark concerning Bible commentaries I'd like to close with. He said "Thank Goodness there is the Bible to shed Light on all of the Religious Commentaries". ("huh?")
